The material covered in Psych 492 is relevant for several fields of employment involving testing procedures (e.g., clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, speech-language pathology, human resources, etc.)

After Winter 2009, we can no longer guarantee that Psych 492 will be offered once a year. As a result, see the following changes to the degree requirements for Honours Psychology.

Honours Psychology Majors who begin their UW studies Fall 2009 or later:

You are not required to take Psych 492 but you may do so if the course is available.
Exception: At least 1 of Psych 391 or 492 must be taken from UW. Click here for further details regarding the Psychology residency requirements.

Current Honours Psych Majors whose last school term will be Spring 2009 or earlier:

You are required to successfully complete Psych 492.

Current Honours Psych Majors whose last school term will be Fall 2009 or later:

Click here for the degree requirement check lists for Psychology Majors.

If you choose not to take Psych 492, note the following adjustments to your degree requirements:

  • Honours Psychology (BA or BSc) or
Honours Psychology and Arts and Business:

Please replace Psych 492 on the degree requirement check list with one Psych elective (.5 units) at the 300 or 400 level in lieu of Psych 492.

  • Any Honours Psych Major doing the HRM Specialization (2004 requirements):

Psych 492 is a required course for the 2004 HRM Specialization requirements but not the 2008 requirements. Psych 492 is relevant to your interests in the field of Human Resources as noted above. However, if you choose not to take Psych 492, you will require at least 3 rather than 2 courses from the elective list for the HRM Specialization (i.e., AFM 123, HRM 301, Psych 340, Psych 399, 439, Psych 462).

  • Joint Honours Psychology or
    Combination Honours Psychology:

You will be taking 8.0 Psych labelled units instead of 9.0 Psych labelled units (see the degree requirement check lists for details). If you are already in third or fourth year, and you are planning to do an Honours Thesis in Psychology (Psych 499A/B/C), and you have not yet discussed your 2 Psychology course waivers with Heather Smith, please do so ASAP.

Please direct questions to Heather Smith.
