Miscellaneous

E-MAIL

Students are responsible for all email that is sent to the official UW email address. Check e-mail regularly for important and time sensitive messages. See "Official Student Email Address" for further details (e.g., procedures and warnings regarding forwarding email to other accounts).

Psychology Majors are sent bulk e-mail messages from the Psychology Undergraduate Office frequently via the Psychology Undergraduate Student E-Mail List. The mailing list is created from the e-mail information that students provide on their 'Applications for the Psychology Major'. The UW e-mail address is strongly preferred for the mailing list for delivery reliability and security of messages, as well as to eliminate the necessity for you to inform Heather Smith of any alternate e-mail addresses if you choose to redirect your e-mail to another account (see below for details).

An appropriate forwarding capability for e-mail is provided on the UW Directory (WatIAM) so that students may, if they so choose, redirect e-mail from their UW e-mail account to an alternate account. Students are responsible for monitoring the contents and condition of the mailbox to which they have forwarded their UW e-mail. If you are using free web accounts such as hotmail or yahoo (these are not as reliable and secure as UW e-mail), please keep the number of messages in your 'in' box to a minimum in order to minimize the number of 'undeliverable messages' to your account. The University is not responsible for messages that you don't receive.

Please include your full name and ID number on all e-mail messages sent to UW personnel.

PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAM REVIEW 2010 - INPUT NEEDED FROM PSYCH MAJORS

(posted Jan 25, 2010)

ATTENTION YEAR 2, 3, 4 STUDENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN THE PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR (BA or BSc):

Psychology Curriculum Review: Stakeholder Focus Groups

Subject: Request for Participants for Psychology Undergraduate Program Review

We're looking for your input! The Psychology Department is undergoing our standard program review (once every seven years).  One piece of this involves getting feedback on our undergraduate programs.  Each focus group should involve 6-8 people and will be run by two staff  members in UW's Centre for Teaching Excellence who have been working with some of our faculty members during this project.

We are now inviting interested students to contact Brad Mannell in the Centre for Teaching Excellence to secure your spot as a participant. We are looking for students in any year. Each session will take an hour and a half (you need only sign up for one session), and we will feed you as part of your participation!  Sessions will be held

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 3, 2010 FROM 2-3:30 P.M.

and THURSDAY FEBRUARY 4, 2010 FROM  10-11:30 AM.

The location in each case is MC 4051 (Centre for Teaching Excellence, MC location).

If you are available and interested, please email Brad directly to indicate your willingness to participate.  He will confirm by email whether or not you have secured a spot.

The purpose of the focus group is to collect your ideas on topics such as why you chose your program of study, what qualities graduates from your program should have, and how your program is helping you (or not) to develop these qualities.  Groups do not have to reach a consensus on any topic area.

Your identities will remain confidential. Information that you provide will be grouped with the responses from the other participants before being reported back to the Department.  Also, no faculty members will be present at the focus groups.

Thank you for considering this important opportunity to give feedback...

Sincerely,

Colin Ellard
Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies
Dept. of Psychology
