GVHRPA Award - 2009 recipient

Grand Valley Human Resources Professionals Association
Award - 2009 Recipient

Congratulations to Joanna Woo, recipient of the 2009 Grand Valley Human Resources Professional Association Award!

Joanna is currently in her fourth year at Waterloo completing a degree in Honours Psychology - HRM Specialization, German Minor. After graduation Joanna plans pursue the CHRP designation, gain employment in the HR field, and then return to Waterloo for graduate studies in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.

During her academic career Joanna has been active in a number of campus organizations. She is a Student Director with the Arts Student Union. This program is a leadership opportunity for students in the Faculty of Arts to get involved and take on a specific initiative within the office. Joanna’s leadership qualities quickly emerged and she showed a passion and caring enthusiasm for her responsibilities. She has been described as one of their strongest role models and a shining example to others who are keen to make a difference in their school and community.

Joanna is also Vice-President of the Psychology Society at Waterloo. This student organization depends on the contribution of volunteers to unite a department of over 1000 students. In the Vice-President Communications role, Joanna’s main responsibility is to act as a liaison between the Psychology Society and other on-campus organizations. Not only does she fulfill this role beyond expectations, but she demonstrates remarkable initiative in areas beyond her primary responsibilities. She enthusiastically coordinates free campus-wide events open to all students, and contributes extensive time towards advertising efforts for the Psychology Society.

Joanna is also a student volunteer with the Faculty of Arts Advancement Team where she demonstrates professionalism and dedication to her role. She is involved with all aspects of event planning with her key responsibility being event marketing and promotions.

The Psychology Department congratulates Joanna on her academic achievements and wishes her well in her future endeavours.
