Applying for Scholarships

Scholarships

In all cases, the deadlines mentioned on the individual CIHR, NSERC, OGS and SSHRC pages are the agency's deadlines. The actual Psychology Department deadlines (submission to Rita Cherkewski, Adminstrative Co-ordinator, Graduate Studies, PAS 3013) are as follows:

The Graduate Studies Office will be holding a Scholarship Information Session on Tuesday, September 13th, 2011, 2:30 - 4:00 pm in MC 2065. All students are encouraged to attend.

  • OGS - Ontario Graduate Scholarships - September 22th, 2011
  • SSHRC - Master's and Doctoral applications - October 14th, 2011

Please contact Rita Cherkewski, PAS 3013, 519-888-4567 x 32043, rcherkew@uwaterloo.ca if you have any questions or problems.

NSERC

To apply for an NSERC CGS/PGS see http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/Students-Etudiants/PG-CS/BellandPostgrad-BelletSuperieures_eng.asp.

Applications are to be submitted using Form 201 in the on-line application system. You must submit your application on-line by October 5th, 2011.

  • When prompted by NSERC's online application system for a designate email, Waterloo students must input gsoaward@uwaterloo.ca as their transcript designate. When prompted for the Family Name and Given Name fields, applicants should enter "Bilotta" and "Miranda" respectively.
    • This will allow the GSO to upload all required transcripts (Waterloo and other) to the student's application.
  • Students have until Friday, September 30, 2011 to assign gsoaward@uwaterloo.ca as their transcript designate. This will ensure all transcripts are uploaded to the student's application by the University deadline of October 5, 2011.
    • Note: Students are unable to submit their application by their University deadline until all transcripts are uploaded to their application by the GSO.

OGS

The 2012-2013 OGS application is now available. Applicants may either apply online or complete a hardcopy paper application. Please note that although students can complete the application online, they are still required to print a completed hardcopy in order to submit it to me. Students who do not have a Social Insurance Number must complete a paper application (pdf).

You must complete all of the following forms.

When completing the the two Academic Assessment Reports and the Summary Sheet, you only need to fill out the top portions of the forms, i.e., your name and I.D.#. On the two Academic Assessment Reports, you must complete Section A.

NOTE: Please note that the PDF fillable file available is preset for a maximum of 3950 characters. Any document that does not meet these standards will not be accepted.

SSHRC

Please see http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/students-etudiants-eng.aspx for details from SSHRC regarding both the Master's and Doctoral application.

Note that the Postdoctoral applications must be submitted directly to SSHRC by their deadline.

CIHR

For the Master's and Doctoral application go to http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/795.html

In each case, the resulting PDF files make use of a program called Adobe Acrobat Reader for printing. This program should be installed on almost all Windows machines in the department so you won't need to do anything but click on the link - if you have a PC which doesn't have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, please contact bee@uwaterloo.ca.

Once completed, print and submit paper copies to Rita Cherkewski, Adminstrative Co-ordinator, Graduate Studies, in PAS 3013 by the deadlines specified above.

Transcripts

If you plan on applying for any of the above scholarships, I would appreciate receiving an email telling me for which scholarship you will be applying.  Since I will be ordering all University of Waterloo transcripts, I need to know the names of the students for whom I need to order a transcript.  It will also help in my planning during the months of September and October.

If you require official University of Waterloo transcripts, please contact Rita Cherkewski who will order them for you. If you require transcripts from other universities, you must order them directly from the institution. They must be mailed directly to Rita Cherkewski, Adminstrative Co-ordinator, Graduate Studies, Department of Psychology, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON N2L 3G1.
