FAQ About UW Admission

If you do not have an Honours Degree in Psych?

We receive over 250 applications for our various programs. The majority of these applicants have the necessary requirements of an Honours degree in Psychology. We can usually admit enough students from those applications that we find that we can not accommodate students who do not have a BA or BSc in Psychology. Note: Clinical psychology is very competitive, more than half the applications are for this program and as such an application which does not have the necessary background would not be considered very strong.

It is strongly recommended that you complete the requirements for an Honours degree in Psychology before applying to our program.

Do I need to write my GREs, which ones?

Yes, you must arrange to have Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general scores forwarded to the Department when applying for admission. We no longer require students to write the GRE subject exam.

The only exception is for students who are applying to the MASc in the Developmental Communication Science. They do not need to write the GRE exam. All other students must arrange to write the general GRE exam.

I have written my GREs but the scores may not get there in time for the December 15th deadline?

When you send in your application package please include a note stating that you have written your GRE and that the scores will follow.

Your application will be considered but it will not be considered complete until we received the final GRE scores. You will not be penalized because of the late sitting. It will take awhile to sort through all the applications (usually they number over 250). If your scores arrive by the new year, this will make it in time for the admissions committee to see your whole file.

How many letters of reference do I need?

A minimum of three letters of reference from academic referees are required for admission to our graduate programs.
